At 12noon on Saturday, June 30th thousands will come together at Kitsilano Beach and join together in unity to celebrate Peace. It will be the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the very first Walk for Peace in 1982.

At 1:00 pm we will walk together united in Peace, along Cornwall Avenue, over the Burrard Street Bridge, West along Pacific, South on Bute Street, and cross over Beach Ave onto the grass to gather in the natural amphitheatre of Sunset Beach Park.

At Sunset Beach festivities will start at 1:00 pm and by the time the first walkers arrive there will be many there to welcome them to the main stage. There will be performers, speakers, entertainers, and music from 1 pm to 4:15 pm at 4:15 pm we will commence a mediation for peace, at the conclusion of the mediation around 4:30 pm participants will be encouraged to ‘walk their peace home’, or to other peace events set up by private groups in the late afternoon and evening at other locations.

It will be a beautiful afternoon in celebrating Peace, and sharing peace with one another. Our intention is not to be an anti-war or anti-something protest march, but rather to be a compassionate  pro-peace walk. Those who wish to protest may meet somewhere else on another day. You cannot come to peace by warring against war. Our slogan in 1982 was and still is: “There is no way to peace, peace is the way”

We are looking for Volunteers to join us to fulfil 100’s of positions as Peace Ambassadors, and we are also looking for Sponsors to help us cover the specific costs of this not for profit event. We appreciate your endorsement and all help no matter how small.

Jonathan Cook wins the 2011 Martha Gellhorn Special Prize for Journalism

At the 2011 Martha Gellhorn Special Prize for Journalism, awarded at a ceremony in London on 2 June 2011, Jonathan Cook was one of three winners. The other two were Umar Cheema, of the International News of Pakistan, and Charles Clover, of the Financial Times. Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, won the Martha Gellhorn Prize for Journalism.

The judge's citation reads: "Jonathan Cook's work on Palestine and Israel, especially his de-coding of official propaganda and his outstanding analysis of events often obfuscated in the mainstream, has made him one of the reliable truth-tellers in the Middle East."
