Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" will be performed for the benefit of the Unitarian Church of Vancouver's Refugee Committee* on Wednesday, May 2 at 8 pm. It will be performed by the Metro Theatre cast in Vancouver's Metro Theatre at 1370 SW Marine Drive, Vancouver.

There will only be the one performance for us of this famous murder mystery with its twist ending. This is the very same play which made theatre history in London's West End with an initial run of more than 24,500 performances.

Tickets are only $15. There will be general seating.

Please e-mail cepstone@shaw.ca for a reservation - to be picked up at the door.

Why not bring your family and friends and make a fun evening of it?  You might like to have dinner beforehand. Both Cravings  at 8804 Osler Street (72nd near Oak, and just three blocks from the theatre) and the White Spot at 1041 SW Marine Drive promise to get you out in time before the curtain goes up.

Directions: At the bottom (south end) of Granville Street, bear right instead of going over the bridge).

There is on-street parking near the theatre or you can park for three loonies (no cards, no change) at the Fraser Arms Hotel, 100 yards west of the theatre on the corner of Granville and SW Marine Drive. If you prefer public transport, take the same #17 which goes south past UCV and get off at 72nd - then  bear right into SW Marine Drive.

This is an important fund-raiser for the Refugee Committee which sponsors many refugees. But it can't do this humanitarian work without financial support. We must cover all the refugees'  expenses for a year -- rent and living expenses, phone, school supplies, clothing, furniture and now,  with the Harper government's withdrawal of  coverage, certain medical expenses, like eye glasses and dental. Currently we have three adults and 4 children under our sponsorship, all ethnic Palestinians from the Al Hol refugee camp on the Syria-Iraq border.

Donations to the Refugee Committee are always needed and are most welcome. Please make your cheque payable to:

Unitarian Church of Vancouver.

Mark on the memo line:  Refugee Fund, and mail it to:

Unitarian Church of Vancouver
949 West 49th Ave Vancouver, BC V5Z 2T1

* for the benefit of UCV's Refugee Committee jointly with the Hummingbird Grannies of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which raises funds for African grandmothers raising AIDS-orphaned grandchildren.

A Statement to the Press from the Free Gaza Movement
Forty-six international human rights workers are now sailing to Gaza through international waters with one overriding goal: to break the Israeli siege that Israel has imposed on the civilian population of Gaza.  Any action designed to harm civilians constitutes collective punishment (in the Palestinians’ case, for voting the “wrong” way) and is both illegal under international law and profoundly immoral.  Our mission is to expose the illegality of Israel’s actions, and to break through the siege in order to express our solidarity with the suffering people of Gaza (and of the occupied Palestinian territory as a whole) and to create a free and regular channel between Gaza and the outside world.
